Please save the dates. As usual, the December regional begins the day after Christmas. This year that falls on Saturday, Dec 26th, ending Tuesday, December 29th. This year, we keep things very simple with the same daily schedule: 10am start time for all games: Open Pairs, Gold Rush Pairs, and Bracketed Round Robin Teams.
Big Simplifications
Those who joined us last year will note a few events missing. There will no longer be a bracketed pairs event. While some Districts run a very successful bracketed pairs, the main draw is having a large number of brackets and a concept that everyone plays in a field of players with similar experience. When we ran the event last year, we found having only 2-3 brackets isn’t quite enough.
Many of us enjoyed the 2-day, 4-session swiss teams from last year (and the Goldman Pairs from Astoria 2025). Unfortunately. this regional we will not be holding any four-session events. We received lots of feedback that the four-session event should be held on Saturday and Sunday, running the event on a weekend rather than split into say Sunday and Monday. However, over the years we’ve also learned that players prefer one-day brackted round robin, especially on the first day of the regional.
